Vision Therapy Treatment From Our Austin Optometrist
Austin Vision Center is committed to providing you with the highest standard of vision care in the surrounding area. Our very own Austin optometrist team consists of Dr. Mark F. Hudson and Dr. Bryan Marshall, both of whom specialize in providing quality eye and vision care services to patients in Austin and the surrounding areas. One of the many services we're able to provide is that of vision therapy, which can be a great way to improve your eyesight without the need for corrective lenses or even LASIK surgery.
Understanding Vision Therapy and How it Works
Specifically, vision therapy works by using specialized exercises to improve the visual processing abilities of the eyes. These exercises are carefully chosen and tailored to each patient by our optometrists for the best results. In addition to strengthening the eyes themselves, vision therapy also improves the connections between the eyes and brain. In turn, your brain is better able to process images transmitted by the eyes themselves, resulting in improved eyesight.
There are many conditions that vision therapy may be useful in treating and managing, especially in younger patients. Some examples of these eye and vision conditions include:
- crossed eyes
- lazy eye
- double vision
Typically, a patient undergoing vision therapy will come into our office and meet with an eye doctor for sessions once or twice a week. The length of a vision therapy appointment can vary, but most last between thirty minutes and one hour. Throughout the treatment process, our eye doctor will carefully track vision improvement and ultimately determine when optimal results have been reached. At that point, the therapy can be ceased and patients continue to enjoy lasting results.
Are You a Viable Candidate for Vision Therapy?
While most people with minor vision problems are good candidates for vision therapy, the only way to know for sure is to schedule an evaluation with our optometrists. This will allow us to take a thorough look at your eye and vision health and, ultimately, determine if this is the right treatment for you. In most cases where poor vision processing is causing your eye and vision problems, vision therapy will likely be effective in treating the issue without the need for corrective lenses or invasive procedures (such as LASIK).
At Austin Vision Center, we are happy to offer skilled vision therapy services to patients. Our optometrists have experience in working with patients who have any number of vision conditions and similar issues, and we have seen first-hand just how effective these exercises can be in improving overall visual processing.
